Electric Mandarine "One" BSR167

Οι Electric Mandarine παρουσιάζουν το πρώτο τους άλμπουμ με τίτλο “One”. To γκρουπ του Θάνου Αθανασόπουλου ξεκίνησε πριν μια δεκαπενταετία σχεδόν, αρχικά ως τρίο με τους Owen Hart jr στα τύμπανα και τον Βασίλη Στεφανόπουλο στο κοντραμπάσσο και φυσικά τον Αθανασόπουλο στο τενόρο και σοπράνο σαξόφωνο και effects. Η μπάντα εκτελούσε τις συνθέσεις του Αθανασόπουλου, σε ένα ιδίωμα ηλεκτρικής τζαζ που πειραματίζονταν με διαφορετικούς ρυθμούς, grooves, και ηλεκτρικά ηχοχρώματα. Η μπάντα, με βάση την Ολλανδία έπαιξε πάρα πολλά live αυτά τα χρόνια, περιλαμβανoμένης και μιας περιοδείας στην Ελλάδα, εμφάνιση στο Jazz festival Dimitria στη Θεσσαλονίκη, καθώς και στο Half Νote Jazz Club στην Αθήνα. Σήμερα τα μέλη της ορχήστρας, που ηχογράφησαν και στο δίσκο, είναι οι Στέλιος Παπάζογλου κιθάρα, Νίκος Σκαρόπουλος, ηλεκτρικό μπάσο και Τhorsten Grau, στα τύμπανα. Ο leader του γκρουπ Θάνος Αθανασόπουλος, γεννημένος στη Θεσσαλονίκη, άρχισε από νωρίς να παίζει μουσική, σπούδασε κλαρινέτο και σαξόφωνο στο Δημοτικό και στο Σύγχρονο Ωδείο ενώ από τη δεκαετία του `90 έπαιζε επαγγελματικά στη Ελλάδα, με γκρουπ (Xaxakes, Capital S, Δίλλημα (με τον Γιώργο Χαρατζόγλου) αλλά και πολλά τζαζ σχήματα με μουσικούς όπως ο Μάκης Στεφανίδης, Λάκης Τζήμκας, Τηλέμαχος Μούσας, Έυη Σιαμαντά, Γιάννης Οικονομίδης και πάρα πολλούς άλλους, με τους οποίους έπαιζε σε όλα τα τότε clubs της πόλης, όπως το Μύλο, την Υδρόγειο, το Malt and Jazz, το cafe Americain, Spitimou.innercitygroove και πολλά άλλα. Ήταν μέλος του τζαζ κουαρτέτου σαξοφώνων του Φώντα Αβράμογλου, αλλά και της πρώτης big band της Θεσσαλονίκης, με την οποία έπαιξε και στο Sani festival, ανοίγοντας την συναυλία του Freddie Hubbard. To 2002 μετακόμισε στην Ολλανδία, στην Χάγη, όπου και σπούδασε τζαζ σαξόφωνο για 6 χρόνια στην Βασιλική ακαδημία της Χάγης (Koninklijke Conservatorium) υπό την επίβλεψη των John Rocco και Toon Roos, παίρνοντας bachelor και master diploma. Έκτοτε διαμένει μόνιμα στην Χάγη διδάσκοντας και παίζοντας μουσική με πολλά και διάφορα σχήματα, και παίζοντας σε club και φεστιβάλ σε πολλές χώρες εκτός της Ολλανδίας, όπως Βέλγιο, Γαλλία, Ισπανία, Γερμανία και φυσικά Ελλάδα. Από το 2009, μαζί με τον Ισπανό κιθαρίστα Marcos Pin και τους Paco Charlin, LAR Legido συνυπογράφουν την δισκογραφία του Athanasopoulos Pin quartet, με το οποίο έχει βγάλει 3 άλμπουμ : “Knock before” , “Modern money mechanics” και “About time” με original συνθέσεις των δύο leaders. To πρώτο άλμπουμ των Electric Mandarine με τίτλο “One”, αποτυπώθηκε σε 185 αριθμημένες κόπιες βινυλίου, σε παραγωγή της Slavic Smile Music και διανομή της B-otherSide records. Την μίξη του άλμπουμ επιμελήθηκε ο Arne Bock στα Imexsound S.L. και το mastering o Γιάννης Κύρης ενώ το πρωτότυπο εικαστικό προέρχεται από τον Ajaz19. Thanos Athanasopoulos' group started almost fifteen years ago, initially as a trio with Owen Hart jr on drums and Vasilis Stefanopoulos on double bass and of course Athanasopoulos on tenor and soprano saxophone and effects. The band performed Athanasopoulos' compositions, in an electric jazz idiom that experimented with different rhythms, grooves, and electric timbres. The band, based in the Netherlands, has played a lot of live shows over the years, including a tour in Greece, an appearance at the Dimitria Jazz festival in Thessaloniki, as well as at the Half Note Jazz Club in Athens. Today the members of the orchestra, who also recorded on the album, are Stelios Papazoglou on guitar, Nikos Skaropoulos on electric bass and Thorsten Grau on drums. The group's leader Thanos Athanasopoulos, born in Thessaloniki, started playing music at an early age, studied clarinet and saxophone at the Elementary and Modern Conservatory, while since the 90s he has been playing professionally in Greece, with groups (Xaxakes, Capital S, Dillima (with Giorgos Charatzoglou) as well as many jazz bands with musicians such as Makis Stefanidis, Lakis Tzimkas, Telemachos Moussas, Evi Siamanta, Yannis Economidis and many others, with whom he played in all the clubs of the city at the time, such as Mylos, Ydrogeio, Malt and Jazz, cafe Americain, Spitimou.innercitygroove and many others. He was a member of Fontas Avramoglou's jazz saxophone quartet, as well as the first big band of Thessaloniki, with which he also played at Sani festival, opening the concert of Freddie Hubbard. In 2002 he moved to The Hague, Netherlands, where he studied jazz saxophone for 6 years at the Royal Academy of The Hague (Koninklijke Conservatorium) under the supervision of John Rocco and Toon Roos, receiving a bachelor and master diploma. Since then he has been permanently residing in The Hague, teaching and playing music with many and various groups, and playing in clubs and festivals in many countries outside the Netherlands, such as Belgium, France, Spain, Germany and of course Greece. Since 2009, together with the Spanish guitarist Marcos Pin and Paco Charlin, LAR Legido has co-signed the discography of the Athanasopoulos Pin quartet, with which he has released 3 albums: “Knock before”, “Modern money mechanics” and “About time” with original compositions by the two leaders. Electric Mandarine's first album, titled “One”, was released on 185 limited hand numbered vinyl copies, produced by Slavic Smile Music and distributed by B-otherSide records.
